Internet of Things: workshop on RFID and other kind of spimes
July 7-9, 2010 at KITCHEN BUDAPEST (Hungary)

RFID is part of the ecology of IPV6, barcodes and all kinds of wireless which make up the linking up of people, things and the environment.
If we look at it from our analogue point of view and in our current economic and democratic systems of fear, crisis and control it does not show great promise for more balance, more joy or more happiness. However, if we are able to look beyond ourselves, the real profit may lie in getting to know ourselves and our friends and enemies better and being able to live up fully to our potential if everything becomes a bit more transparent.
Rob van Kranenburg and Pawel Pokutycki, the head chefs of the workshop at KITCHEN BUDAPEST (in collaboration with MOME, Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design) will cook a delicious radioactive soup tastefully tagged with a flavour of sweet do-it-yourself electronics and spime* spices. Fresh food for thought, unforgettable recipes and the best ingredients served straight on the plates of hungry creatives.

Praise for the AR-interface of the Kröller – Müller project
February 17, 2010
The Masters of New Media blog of the University of Amsterdam praises the innovative interface for Augmented Reality that was realised for the Kröller – Müller project.
"A good example of the ways in which art can benefit from augmented reality, and becomes totally different by the use of augmented reality techniques, was the installation in the Kröller – Müller Museum by the AR+RFID Lab from the Hague. This lab has as main objective to create and support art, which is based on augmented reality techniques. The installation at the Kröller – Müller Museum in July 2009 was a great example of this, as we can see in the documentation. The system was based on data shown on screens, which where mounted on walkers and thus moved by the spectators." More >>>

AR+RFID Lab lecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design
October 15, 2009
The AR+RFID Lab held a lecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design which was well received. The lecture is part of a series covering responsive environments. The pursuits thus far have included purely digital as well as mixed digital/physical projects and courses. The lecture series ties in with this interest and presents speakers that pursue a variety of related, yet diverse types of work. Material based approaches, engineering, artistic approaches, environmental approaches – the series will host a total of 6 speakers this academic year, and intentionally brings a spectrum of speakers to the school that are outside the traditional boundary of the design profession.

Sgraffito in 3D
October 20, 2008
From October 25 until January 4 the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam is exhibiting its wonderful collection of sgraffito objects from the period 1450-1550. Sgraffito is an ancient decorative technique in which patterns are scratched into the wet clay. The Dutch plates, bowls and cooking pots are part of the Van Beuningen-De Vriese collection. The artist Joachim Rotteveel has made this archaeological collection accessible in a spectacular way using 3D reconstruction techniques from the worlds of medicine and industry. The exhibition is accessible free of charge to everyone.
The exhibition has been made possible by the Erasmus Medical Centre (Radiology department), TNO Science and Industry (Rapid Manufacturing Demo Centre), the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (AR+RFID Lab) and the Erasmus Foundation.
