Opera Bluebeard of Bela Bartok

The AR Lab added visuals to the 'horror' story of Bluebeard. This opera was brought on stage by the students of The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. There are only two characters on  stage during the opera (Bluebeard and Judith) and it was not possible to make a theatrical set-up. To give the audience the possibility to get a more or less magical  experience, students made visual scenes  in 3D, using the Oculus Rift, to accompany the beautiful music. By using the Oculus Rift, one is able to relive the opera…

In the virtual world we can see the forbidden rooms, which  all have there own atmosphere:  a room showing the lake of tears, a room showing the magical garden, a room showing the the torture equipment and the arms…. Although this really was an experiment- it might be useful to opt for this possibility in coming musical  performances.

Special attention is required to the beautiful poster of a Graphic Design student, who was able to catch the various feelings ( fear, curiosity, persistency) of Judith, who opened the doors, one by one, after permission of Bluebeard who could not resist her disturbing pleas…

The AR Lab showed this experiment  in april 2014 (among other projects) on the 'Jaarcongres van de Vereniging van Hogescholen'.
